Damage caused by water leaks is not just time-consuming but also nerve-wracking. The results can be extremely expensive. In Germany, water damages statistically occur every 30 seconds and lead to costs within the billions of Euros. Once a water damage has been detected it is very often followed by extensive renovation expenses. But many water damages remain unnoticed. For this reason, the earlier the leakage is detected, the less severe are the damages and the lower the costs. Therefore, azeti has developed a water leakage monitoring solution that immediately sends an alert in case of an incident.
azeti needed a reliable partner to connect its water leakage hardware to its software environment. Since water sensors are often located at places that are hard to reach, such as basements, sewers or underground pipelines, a robust but also cost-effective connectivity solutions was required. It was a must that the connectivity solution supports high coverage and deep indoor penetration. Common radio standards such as 2G, 3G or 4G typically do not meet these requirements.
The 1NCE IoT Lifetime Flat comes with multi bearer support. It does not just allow to transmit data via 2G, 3G or 4G but also via NB-IoT. NB-IoT is a radio standard specifically developed for fixed IoT applications such as smart meter or water leakage detection. It has an enhanced coverage extension mode that allows to transmit data even from basements and cellars. Additionally, it optimizes power consumption, allowing to extend the lifetime of battery driven devices by up to 10 years. Thanks to the 1NCE IoT SIM Card that supports NB-IoT applications, azeti has found a suitable IoT connectivity solution for its product. The connected sensor sends an immediate alarm as soon as a water leak occurs, regardless of being installed over- or underground. The battery-powered sensor enables continuous monitoring even in the event of a power failure. Besides that, monitoring is also possible, for example, in cellars with low signals.
