Vimcar is redefining fleet management for small-to-medium sized business (SMBs) by seamlessly integrating commercial vehicles into digital ecosystems. The company’s user-friendly and intelligent fleet management software, Vimcar Fleet, was designed specifically with the needs of these small to medium-sized businesses in mind. It is a digital solution to tackle tedious processes in everyday business with efficiency. The software includes features such as drivers licence checks, vehicle booking, cost reports, logbooks, contract management, GPS-tracking and route documentation to simplify and streamline workflows for small and medium-sized fleets. Vimcar already serves more than 25,000 customers in Germany and is headquartered in Berlin with currently more than 100 employees.

Effective fleet management relies on uninterrupted connectivity to track vehicles as they are utilised in multiple locations. This tracking capability provides a basis upon which additional services can be added which was a key goal for Vimcar in its deployments of its logbook.vimcar.com and fleet.vimcar.com software-as-a-service vehicle tracking solutions. Since vehicle tracking is not standardised, it is necessary for external telematics hardware units, or dongles, to be provided that can connect to an on-board diagnostics (OBD) port that can also access the global navigation satellite system (GNSS). Vimcar wanted to ensure that each dongle could be securely authenticated so the data from each vehicle is accurate and frauds cannot be committed. In addition, to support the business case, ease of installation and controlled connectivity costs were a key requirement.

Vimcar selected the 1NCE IoT FlexSIM cards that support 2G and 3G connectivity. The company also took advantage of the 1NCE Lifetime Fee offering  of 500MB of data plus 250 SMS for €10 for ten years with no monthly recurring charges, which has enabled it to have total visibility into the connectivity cost of its SaaS offering. In addition, Vimcar was attracted to 1NCE because of its open virtual private network (VPN) connectivity capability and the international mobile equipment identity (IMEI) lock functionality provided by 1NCE. This enables it to be sure that dongles are deployed in specific vehicles and that tracking data is accurate. Vimcar, so far, has thousands of 1NCE SIM cards in use in vehicles to which its software-as-a-service is deployed.
